The Book of Flesh

The Book of Flesh (Nikutai no Sho) is an ancient book bound in the skin of a long-dead Yokai. Only a small group of Shinsei have ever seen it, and it's completely lost to humans, making the true history of the Shinsei unattainable.
Instead of normal paper, the pages are made of preserved hide marked with carved-in red symbols. Still retaining the ancient entity’s energy who bled for its creation, the book remains warm to the touch.Despite its unnatural and ghastly appearance, the Book of Flesh is named as such for it’s dark history surrounding the Ōtsutsuki’s greed and pride. The desires of the flesh.Inside, the book reveals the true history of the Ōtsutsuki’s invading as parasites from outer space. It explains how these invaders planted their “divine” trees, drained the earth of its natural energy, and turned the humanity against the Shinsei thus forcing them into hiding.Hidden away in complete secrecy, the book is part history lesson and part survival guide. On top of the invasion story, it contains secret instructions for ancient mudra, old exorcism rituals, locations of powerful holy sites, and methods for harvesting dark chakra from ancient battlefields. Reading the words out loud connects the reader to the pain of the author, making it near impossible to complete.

The Father (Kenji)The ruler of governance, order, humans, and life cycles. He took on a humanoid shape to walk among mortals, acting as the grounded, guiding force of the lineage.Synopsis:
Known to mortals as "Kenji", this name and face are the mask this Divine Aspect uses to walk Earth in his form as "Father"- an ancient entity who ruled long before the Otsutsuki ever came to Earth. In truth, he doesn't have a real name, face, or shape. He is one part of a God who split his own soul into different pieces to protect humanity and keep the world in balance. Some of his many forms shaped the mountains, governed the oceans, ruled the skies, etc. Over time, these forms drifted further apart to watch over their respective realms, or created children in their likeness to serve different parts of the world. As the divine Father figure, Kenji carries the heavy burden of his broken lineage. He watched his world fade into chaos with the rise of chakra, his other selves either losing their human followers in return or having the humans turn on them completely. This betrayal caused disarray in every corner of the Earth and by one means or another, sent the other Divine Beings into dormant states while Kenji lived through the complete erasure of their history.His human body serves as a temporary vessel. He rarely interferes in the world, merely observing from the shadows, but, in actuality, when he is whole, he is capable of bending reality and existence itself. Despite his usual detachment from the world, he cares deeply for Rini, one of his direct descendants. He swore as a god, never to interfere in mortal lives, but in his "Father" form, his paternal love shines through, making him a constant presence in Rini's life, just like he was for her mother, (his daughter) Kohana. Kenji watches over her closely, guiding her on how to use their ancient power and carry the heavy burden of their bloodline.

The Sovereign of the Waters:The ruler of the oceans, rivers, and life-giving rain. This aspect maintains fluid creation and governs all aquatic domains.Synopsis:
"I am the roar from the ocean depths, the ever flowing rivers and streams, the pristine snow capping the mountains, the mists blanketing the valleys, and every drop of rain that falls upon the earth. I am the blood in all who bleed."This Divine Aspect takes on no name, but many have referred to it as the Great Water Dragon due to their appearance. This Divine Aspect is enigmatic yet harbors a deep love for the world and life as the domain of water heavily intertwines with the other Divine Aspects and their creations.Among the many aquatic beings they formed were the Mizuki, a clan of human-like water yokai, who served as emissaries to humanity and helped the people traverse the waters. However, when Kaguya and her cohorts created a rift between humanity and the Divine Aspects, the Great Water Dragon called the Mizuki out to a hidden island to protect them from slaughter and the impurities of the God Tree. Yet, unbeknownst to them, one the Mizuki sided with Kaguya and through their deception, infected the Great Water Dragon with a piece of the God Tree, putting them into a dormant state. The traitor set themselves up as the “temporary” leader of the Mizuki and the stand-in “God of Water” while the Great Water Dragon supposedly recovers.The Lord of the Skies:The ruler of storms, winds, and heavenly balance. They are generally neither good nor bad; they are complex, morally neutral spirits that act according to their own natural instincts, logic, or response to human behavior. They often represent and are the reason for unexplained mysteries, fears, or changes in the environment. Disrespecting their natural elements/places/things they are meant to protect is a quick way to bring down their tricks, curses, and misfortune.Benevolent yokai can bring good fortune and prosperity, while some can be tricksters. The malevolent Yokai are often very dangerous and are often called Oni, or Demons.Weaker yokai lack physical form while stronger ones are capable of manifesting real bodies (such as the Tailed Beasts). These yokai can be sealed and used in Jutsu with enough concentrated chakra. Because human spirits are naturally weak, most easily cross over into their next life. But those who die in distress or without peace can get left behind, wandering the mortal realm and sometimes clinging to physical items just to hold onto a piece of their old existence. These trapped human souls can be used in strong jutsu like Impure World Reincarnation or left susceptible to the will of malevolent yokai. These yokai warp the human soul, often turning them into malicious spirits who haunt or even attack others.In order for a yurei to pass, they must either be forcibly sent away to the Pure Realm or offered solace from that which ties them to the natural world.
[ Ex: Sasori breaking free from the IWR jutsu after speaking with Kankuro ]—Regardless of what name mortals gave them, these yokai were the original guardians of the world. To protect their sacred territories, many lived amongst and co-mingled with mortals while taking on the roles of monks, shrine maidens, and priests in their lifetime, dedicating themselves to guarding ancient temples and spiritual sites which often served as the epicenter for human communities.[ Ex: If a shrine was built to honor a deity like Amaterasu, the priests tending to it weren't just ordinary mortals but direct descendants of Amaterasu charged with protecting both the temple and the holy ground it stood on. The same pattern applied across the world. ]The Divine Aspects’ descendants passed down these traditions through their family’s generations, but when they were hunted and killed after the ‘liberation’ of chakra, many shrines were left abandoned. Some devout humans took up the mantle of a few sites after many years, but 90% were left to ruin with their lineage nearly being wiped away.Because Kaguya viewed the Earth as godless due to the Divine not always answering prayers and allowing humanity to grow in conflict, she attempted Godhood by bringing humanity together by allowing a free flow of chakra. As the masses turned to Kaguya’s teachings, many began viewing the Divine Aspects and their offspring as enemies and monsters.Because of this, the Ōtsutsuki Clan is the natural enemy to The Sasaki clan and Shinsei as a whole.

Shinsei as a wholeThe appearance of each Shinsei are all wide ranging and unique, mostly consisting of non-human forms.Depending on the family line, some Shinsei looked more aquatic, animalistic, ghostly, or even present as plants. The original spiritual epicenters of the Shinsei have long faded into myth, hidden far from the reach of the shinobi world. While sacred sites and spiritually charged pockets exist across every region, the primary thrones of the Titans remain locked behind extreme weather phenomena that humans have not been able to access. These natural anomalies act as divine barriers, keeping their sanctuaries unreachable to mortals.Ancient scripts eventually surfaced across the world, revealing the existence of hidden Shinsei sanctuaries tucked away in forgotten corners of the earth. Texts recovered speaking of regions like the Land of Demons, the Land of Swamps, the Land of Silence, and Graveyard Mountain describe isolated societies that once lived in harmony with these divine beings; serving as the last preserved records of a era before the sacred sites were lost to time.However, you can perhaps find what remains of their descendants in even the most populated areas... hidden in plain sight.

Abilities

Because the Shinsei stem directly from the Divine Whole, their lineage naturally manifests an extraordinarily broad range of Kekkei Genkai (bloodline traits) and Kekkei Tōta (advanced bloodline selections). Rather than being restricted to a single element or technique, the specific mutation a Shinsei develops depends on several factors; including their primary elemental domain, how pure or diluted their divine blood is, and which sub-god or titan line they descend from.
As a result, different family branches display vastly different hereditary abilities:—The Sasaki Line (Kenji): Tend toward spiritual, soul-manipulating, or reality-altering abilities (such as rare Yin/Yang-based traits or specialized sensory mutations).
—The Mizuki Line (Sovereign of Waters): Frequently manifest fluid or physical elemental mutations like Ice Release (Hyōton), Boil Release (Futsūton), or specialized body-transformation traits.
—The Amaki Line (Lord of Skies): Commonly develop movement or atmospheric mutations, such as Magnet Release (Jiton), Storm Release (Ranton), or gravity-altering bloodline traits.

Beyond standard natural energy, some Shinsei possess the rare ability to tap into Dark Chakra: a special force grown entirely from dense, negative spiritual energy.
While ordinary chakra relies on physical and mental balance, Dark Chakra breeds from and feeds off of malicious intent, suffering, and hatred.Shinsei can gather this corrupted energy, sometimes unconsciously, from ancient battlefields, desecrated spiritual sites, or even from malevolent Yokai (Oni) in the area. [ Mōryō. ].When utilized, Dark Chakra amplifies a Shinsei's raw power and jutsu lethality, but prolonged exposure risks warping their mind, shaping their physical forms, and corrupting their divine bloodline entirely.While humans cannot gather this energy naturally, they can enter into contracts with oni, and their devotion rewarded with power from the oni, which can be formed into Dark Chakra. [ Yomi ].Negative spiritual energy can be produced by any being, even the lingering deceased. Mal-intended humans can also leave traces of negative spiritual energy. This energy is most often called The Rot.

Hand Seals

9 Hand Seals: Kuji-in

While the Sasaki use standard ninja hand signs like the rest of the shinobi world, they also preserve their own sacred catalog of ancient hand symbols. Obtained from age-old meditation mudras and forgotten spiritual incantations, these signs were originally created for prayer, ritual cleansing, and meditation.In the modern era, while they still can be used for their original intent. These signs have been repurposed for spiritual warfare; allowing Sasaki to channel raw natural and spiritual energy more easily, bind malevolent yōkai, or ward off the effects of dark chakra.This is most often used by the spiritually attuned Sasaki Clan.

Revert Hand Seals

The Shinsei possess an activation technique completely unique to their lineage: the formation of traditional hand signs upside-down.By inverting these signs, the user deliberately reverses their internal chakra flow. This sudden shift acts as a spiritual key, forcing the body to break its normal limits and unlock their specific blood-line Kekkei Genkai.(This references a subtle, symbolic act of defying Kaguya’s takeover and teachings.)

Spiritual Tags

The weaponry and tools of the Shinsei reflect their deep-rooted bond with the natural and spiritual worlds. These items often (but not always) reject human hosts as their spiritual energy is almost always incompatible.Many Shinsei weapons are formed and taken directly from ancient holy sites. Some may retain life force, such as Rini’s bamboo staff that she plucked from a sacred grove. By responding to her life energy and chakra, the harvested bamboo continues to grow.Others are objects passed down through the clan. One such item includes specialized talismans with face-inscribed markings called Spiritual Tags, which serve as versatile conduits for Spiritual Protection, Ancient Incantations, Energy Siphoning, Sealing, Effigy Substitution, and more.Spiritual Tags are almost completely used by the Sasaki Clan.

Inspiration

This clan follows Kishimoto’s original intentions with the tailed beasts.They were 9 individuals that either had the divine line within them or were a human who sold their soul to an actual powerful yokai, who then took over the identity of that human.[ Ex: Shukaku was a corrupted elder whose spirit was originally sealed inside a teakettle until Gaara's birth so that Gaara would become a weapon for Sunagakure. ]The tailed beasts are ancient spirits of the past, their hosts forcefully possessed by them to be used as holding containers.Canon story adjustments: Unlike the canon storyline, Hagoromo did not create these beasts, rather, they were already there, and Kaguya formed them all into one, creating the ten tails and fused with it, in an effort to gain Godhood.
